I’m sure we have all heard about the 16 hours work day and a need of grind, sacrificing not just social life and downtime, but also sleep for the sake of rather abstract take on success. It’s a trend trying to charm the reality, claiming that 6 hours of rest a day is more than enough.
The truth is we need about 8 hours of sleep each night to rejuvenate, allow our cells to repair and regenerate. It’s not a luxury, it’s an absolute, non-negotiable necessity. Why is it so important? Sleep helps our immune system, regulates a healthy weight and sharpens the mind! It even helps with moods and emotional swings. That’s why you’re grumpy when you don’t sleep well!
What’s more, our Golden 8 is also a pillar of productivity. Similar to a shorter work week introduced recently, the eight hours of daily sleep allows us to perform better and complete more complex, time consuming tasks quicker! That means you work smart, instead of working hard, while getting a better rest and feeling more refreshed!
The ritual is as important as the sleep itself! Before you lay down, dim the lights, switch off those screens and try to do something calming - like a warm bath, herbal tea or read a book. It will help to boost melatonin production and get your brain ready to have the best rest of your life.
I know it's not easy! It’s extremely hard to prioritize sleep when there’s so much going on, but think about it as an investment. The better you sleep, the better you perform! Before you know it, you’ll be all caught up with your day before it’s down time. All thanks to your energy levels!
If we cheer each other on to stay active, we should support each other to rest deeply and sleep well. It’s equally important, and we tend to forget about it!
